When to choose it

Designing a plugin’s external-tool configuration.

Choose it if: You are designing how a plugin configures an external tool server and its connection settings.

Look elsewhere if: You need the server hosted or authenticated for you; this component is an authoring guide.

What the source describes

  • Transport and tool integration guidance
  • Plugin packaging considerations

Requirements

  • Install the containing Plugin Dev package

This is a component of Plugin Dev. Install the containing package once to get its components.

Run the installation command in your shell after reviewing the source. Local scope enables the package for you in this repository. It does not enable it for every collaborator.

Shell • local install scope

Use it after installation

Ask for an MCP integration and specify the server, transport and minimum permissions.

Installation and loading troubleshooting

Limitations & considerations

  • An authoring guide does not host or authenticate a server for you
  • External services have their own permissions and data practices

Source & review record
