When to choose it

A visual scene while a terminal or local Desktop Code session works.

Choose it if: You want a reactive scene and accept the optional audio or weather behavior you enable.

Look elsewhere if: You need session metrics rather than decorative scenes.

What the source describes

• Eleven scenes include aquarium, bonsai, city, train and lofi
• The /ambient picker changes scenes and saves the selection locally
• Tool and turn events animate the scene; sound is optional

Requirements

• Claude Code 2.1.287+; upstream reports testing on 2.1.287
• 24-bit terminal color recommended; at least 20 columns and 3 rows
• Sound support is documented for macOS

Install from the reviewed source

These are the source’s documented installation steps. Read the source, license and requirements first. Marketplace installation can use a different scope from a local --plugin-dir session. Restart Claude Code or use /reload-plugins afterward.

Use it after installation

Run /ambient after restarting Claude Code or using /reload-plugins.

Limitations & considerations

• Optional weather sends the chosen city or time-zone city and coordinates to Open-Meteo every 15 minutes
• Settings, bonsai growth and current-day skyline persist locally
• Install from only one marketplace to avoid duplicated hooks; older rollout-flag wording is obsolete
